THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918 CANADIAN BATTLES IN WORLD WAR ONE
The war started after Germany invaded Belgium. In response Britain declared war on Germany at 11pm on August 4, 1914 and Canada as she was part of the British Empire was automatically at war. Canada’s Governor General formally declared war on Germany the following day, August 5, 1914. Canada's total casualties at the end of the war were 67,000 killed and 250,000 Wounded, out of an expeditionary force of 620,000 militaty personnel.
At its end, the war became known as, “the war to end all wars”. A prophesy sadly unfulfilled, as we all too well know.
